Expand your VPS: more CPU, more memory, more disk
What you get: more resources on the server you already have, knowing in advance how much it will cost you and what can be undone before confirming.
Before starting
Three rules that explain almost everything that happens on this screen:
CPU and memory are applied on restart. The disk grows on the spot.
The disk only grows. It cannot be reduced: shrinking it would erase your data.
It is never charged without you confirming it. If what you ask for is not included in your plan, the panel first shows you the price and does not charge anything until you accept that exact amount.
And one of the permits: only the person who manages the account can contract extensions, because they involve a charge.
Steps
Open your VPS and, in More actions, CPU and memory —or Disks if what you want is space.
Put what you need.
If it fits into what you already have contracted, it applies and that’s it.
If it does not fit, the price is calculated per month. Confirm it and the proportional part of what remains of the period will be charged at that time.
For CPU and memory, restart the server when you can.
Stop paying for an extension
In the VPS profile, Purchased upgrades. The extensions are from your account, not from a machine: they are shared by all your servers.
Press Cancel: you stop paying for it from the next billing and you keep having it until the period you have already paid ends. On that day the server lowers to what your plan includes. You can undo it before that date with Undo.
To stop paying for an additional disk, you must delete it, with its data, and the panel will ask you to write the confirmation. The main disk cannot be canceled.
How to check it worked
After restarting, enter the server and look at it from inside: nproc for the cores, free -h for the memory, df -h for the disk. What the system says is the truth; the panel card is a reflection.
Watch out for the disk: just because the virtual disk is larger does not mean that your system is using it. Sometimes you have to expand the partition and the file system inside. If df -h has not grown, that’s it.
Common problems
- I have expanded the CPU and the server is still the same
Processor and memory changes apply when restarting. Restart from the panel and look at it again.
- I enlarged the disk and df -h has not grown
The virtual disk has grown, but the partition and the file system inside do not know it yet. You have to extend them from inside the machine. If you are not familiar with it, write to us.
- “Your plan includes X and you already use Y”
You have reached the limit of what you have contracted. You can expand by paying the difference from the same screen, or change your plan.
- «The price of the expansion has changed»
Between the time you saw the price and confirmed it, it changed. Nothing has been charged. Ask for it again and confirm the new amount.
- The bank has not accepted the charge
Check the card in Invoicing → Data and payment: expired, no balance, or the bank requesting confirmation. Fix it and try the extension again.
- It tells me that only an administrator can expand
Extensions are charged, so only the person who administers the account can contract them. Ask that person for it.
- I changed my plan and the server still has the resources from before
Changing your plan changes what you are entitled to use, not the machine. Go to your server and upload it in “CPU and memory”.
- I want to downgrade my plan and it won’t let me
If your servers use more than what is included in the new plan, you first have to reduce them in “CPU and memory”. If what is left over is disk, write to us: the disk cannot be reduced alone.
- «We are applying another change to your service»
There is another operation in progress on the same subscription. Nothing has changed; wait a few seconds and try again.
- I canceled an extension and the server asks to restart
When the change cannot be applied on the fly, we do it at dawn, between 03:00 and 05:00. If you prefer not to wait, you can reset it yourself whenever you want.
